History

In 2002 a group of parents were looking to provide an international education for their children and the families in the Como area.  With a great deal of research and determination, they decided to open the International School of Como (ISC) and they invited educators, teachers and many other experts from the International School of Milan to share in the development of this great initiative.

During its first 14 years, ISC has grown to stand for excellence and has contributed to the expansion of international education in Northern Italy, as one of the over 4,500 IB schools (International Baccalaureate) located worldwide. These are schools that share a common philosophy: a commitment to high standards of education, values and programmes that challenge students to excel in their studies, and encourage both personal and academic achievement.

Since 2006, ISC’s has been accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO - www.ibo.org) for its Primary Years Programme (PYP). ISC has well-established classes in the Early Years (Kindergarten, Transition and Grade 1 for children aged 2 to 5) and Elementary School (for children aged 6 to 11). In 2009 the International School of Como opened its Middle School and as in 2014 ISC received the accreditation for the Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). Starting with the 2016/2017 academic year, the ISC is now offering the first year equivalent to High School (MYP 4).
